How to calculate PayPal fees in Germany

PayPal Germany merchant fees used to vary depending on the monthly sales volume but not any more. PayPal usually takes a percentage out of the total transaction amount plus a fixed fee. The rate and fix fee varies depending on the product the merchant enrolled in.

The standard commercial fee is 2.49% plus €0.35 per domestic transaction, while charities are being charged less, starting from 1.5% plus €0.35 per transaction.

For example, if a customer paid €100 for an order, PayPal will take (€100 x 0.0249) + €0.35 = €2.84 and the merchant will receive €100 – €2.90 = €97.10
For a domestic charity transaction, PayPal will take a lower cut of (€100 x 0.015) + €0.35 = €1.85 and the nonprofit will receive €100 – €1.40 = €98.60

There are also additional fees for international transactions.

For PayPal consumers, buying something using PayPal is free as long as you use the same currency (EUR for EUR, etc). Sending and receiving money within Germany is free too.
