United States Stripe Fees Structure

The most common way to setup Stripe on your website is through the integrated payment option, which can be setup within minutes. With it, you can access different features as well as add-ons such as additional payment methods and 3D secure authentication.

They also offer point of sale devices for businesses with physical shops. This product is known as ‘Terminal‘.

Another product calls ‘Billing‘ is also handy for businesses with recurring invoices.

How are Stripe fees calculated?

The standard rate is 2.9% + $0.30. If you customer pay $100, Stripe fee is ($100 * 0.029) + $0.30 = $3.20.

What percentage does Stripe take?

Stripe fees are split into 3 categories: Standard, Billing and Terminal.
The rates for Standard payments is 2.9% + $0.30 for domestic cards and 4.4% + $0.30 for international cards.
For Billing payments, it's 0.5% for sellers on the starter plan and 0.8% for those on the scale plan.
Lastly for transactions on Terminal, it's 2.7% + $0.05 for domestic cards and 3.7% + $0.05 for international cards.

Is Stripe cheaper than PayPal?

Stripe is way cheaper than PayPal.
PayPal charges 3.49% + $0.49 for each standard transaction while Stripe only asks for 2.9% + $0.30. Stripe also gives you further discount if you're a high-volume business.
