Starting from November 2019, eBay starts collecting sales tax when you sells to buyers based in the US. Sales tax is collected on top of your sold price and will not eat into your profit. Since the sales tax is always changing and varies from state to state, we just list an optional 'Sales Tax' field above which you can input any percentage that is applicable to you.
eBay fee excludes sales tax but PayPal and Managed Payments fee includes sales tax.
Each state charges a different sales tax and might also applies to your shipping & handling charges (yes, it's very confusing). Taxjar has a pretty good table to explain all these. They also show you how to set the sales tax on eBay. Note that in some states, sales tax does not include shipping & handling charges.
